Fourth Quarter Alignment: Updating My Mission, Values, and Systems
A quarterly check-in on values, vitality, and the systems that keep me aligned.
FOURTH QUARTER WOOOOOO. I finally got my quarterly planning done 15 days in.
Professional Focus
Professionally, I’m going to be building out 8 curricula for each department for frontline employees and managers at my organization.
I’ll also be creating a project charter template and create an easy framework to make decisions on what project my department will accept, and prioritize.
Lastly I’ll build a proof-of-concept for a knowledge base that I’ve been thinking about for 6+ months.
I love personal and organizational knowledge management.
Personal Alignment
Personally, I’m aligning more on my values, including filling out my alignment tracker, updating my values and mission statement, and curating new data sets.
My mission statement evolves regularly. Well, irregularly, too. Here’s my updated mission statement that’ll carry me through the end of this year:
I live to align truth, creativity, and vitality. I seek fearless understanding and express it through pragmatic, authentic action. By turning insight into systems that serve and by protecting my energy and integrity, I grow into someone who leaves everything a little more alive, ordered, and whole than I found it.
And my new/updated values:
Authenticity
Pragmatism
Fearless Understanding
Vitality
Creative Synthesis
This quarter, I added a mantra based on my values and mission:
“Live aligned. Learn fearlessly. Leave it better.”
Let’s break down how this mantra encompasses my values:
Live aligned: Authenticity & Vitality
Learn fearlessly: Fearless Understanding
Leave it better: Creative Synthesis & Pragmatism
Filling out activities in my alignment tracker (the hard part - takes time and lots of mental effort even with a template)
My activities alignment score changed from 82/100 to 88/100. That’s a kinda true number, but it’s hard to capture every activity/task I do that might be relevant to score. Maybe that’s the next step to improving the scoring mechanism.
Besides that, how can I make this better?
Systems & Experiments
One experiment I’m running involves tracking my mood and activities together.
I use an app called Daylio to track my mood (2-3x daily). It gives me weekly and monthly reports, and I can easily change the moods and activities and such that I input.
I’m also putting together a ChatGPT project that includes all my self-analyses and evaluations (including the alignment tracker, SWOT analysis, mission, values, personality tests, life heuristics, medical diagnoses, etc).
I think I’ll add these Daylio reports into that project. The next time I’m ready to fill out any of the self-evaluations, I can pull data on WHAT I was doing and HOW I was feeling. I’m all about increasing alignment, and the more data, the better. For me, that’s personal growth.
I’ve been sitting at my desk for almost two hours now, writing this, studying the alignment tracker I filled out last week, and listening to the rain. I wonder what additional relevant data I could put into that project, and how I can use that information to prompt aligned results. Let’s talk about that more next time.

I updated this two weeks ago in prep for redoing my values and mission for this quarter.

Song of the Week
I found a playlist on Spotify titled Instrumental Post-Rock Mix. I’m into the longer instrumental music for work and focus. I used to be into Lo-Fi, however the tracks are 1.5-3 minutes long, and that’s too much music switching for me when I’m trying to concentrate.
